Henry (Red) Kuhn, 92, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away October 24, 2024, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on the 16th day of October 1932, in Lindsay, to Henry Kuhn Sr., and Allie Pauline (Loerwald) Kuhn.
FAMILY INFORMATION
Henry is survived by his children: Donna (Kuhn) Sikes and Randy, Brett Kuhn and Stacy, Kyle Kuhn and Denna, Amy (Kuhn) McAnally and Vance. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Frank Krebs Jr., and Charles (Dink) Barentine, and sisters-in-law, Eileen Krebs and Linda Kuhn. He is survived by 11 grandchildren: Megan (Zach) Smith, Collin (Courtney) Sikes, Chance Sikes, Paige (James) Bartee, Tori Kuhn, Kimber Kuhn, Bailey (Ivan) Ramirez, Tanner (Lexie) Kuhn, Karli (Mason) Mesta, Caden (Megan) McAnally, and Gage McAnally. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
PRECEDED IN DEATH
Mr. Kuhn was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 66 years Doris (Krebs) Kuhn; brother Melvin (Dub) Kuhn; sisters Linda (Kuhn) Barentine and Vickie Kuhn.
HISTORY
Red started school in the rural community of Wolf Ridge and continued to Hays elementary followed by Lindsay then Sacred Heart. He briefly worked with the Santa Fe Railroad before entering the US Army in January of 1953. He was stationed in Fort Carson, CO and Fort Knox, KY along with various other stops. His military service ended in January of 1955.
Mr. Kuhn married Doris on June 26, 1956, in Lindsay. They lived a short time in Duncan, OK until moving to Gainesville. In 1957, Donna Gayle was born, followed by Michael Brett in 1959, Kyle Lane in 1963, and Amy Denise in 1969.
Red began his career as an independent carpenter, working out of Community Lumber in Muenster. Then he started work with JA Owens, Contractors, Inc. in the 1960’s. Ultimately, Red and Doris bought the company and continued serving the Cooke County area. Major contributions he helped build include Gainesville State School, Gainesville Memorial Hospital, Northgate Apartments (Lexington Square), Sacred Heart Community Center, Lindsay Centennial Hall, Lindsay Elementary and cafeteria, Gainesville Public Library, Gainesville City Hall as well as many other commercial and residential projects. He was very proud of his major contributions to St. Mary’s and their campus, including St. Mary’s Parish Hall, their junior high, the Gymnasium, and the Early Learning Center. He also worked extensively with remodeling St. Mary’s Church, school, rectory, and the convent.
Mr. Kuhn loved hunting, fishing, farming, his cattle, and his farm. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought true joy to him. He loved attending his kids’, and grandkids’ sporting events which he rarely missed. He and Doris enjoyed traveling extensively all over the world with their great friends and family.
Red was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and many other building committees.

SERVICE INFORMATION
Memorial contributions may be made to Concho Hearts Hospice and/or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
A rosary will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 6:00 to 6:30 PM. Visitation will be held after the rosary from 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will be on Monday, October 28, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10:30 AM, followed by graveside services at New Resthaven Cemetery.
