William Howard Gibson, born December 21, 1933, to Willie Hulen Gibson and Iva Pearl Gibson in Nocona, Texas passed to his Heavenly Father peacefully on June 9, 2021, after a long struggle with illnesses.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sally (Hays) Reed whom he married August 18, 1959. They settled in Gainesville, TX with their children Michael Joe Reed, Sally Darlene Reed, Grady Lynn Reed and William “Bill” Gibson Jr.
Howard served in the US Army for two years and retired with an honorable discharge.
Howard had four sisters Betty, Colleen, Mary Edna and Darlene Gibson who all preceded him in death as did his parents. Two of his children Leslie Howard Gibson and Russell Carl Gibson, his brother-in-law Fred Hays and sister-in-law Janie Hays Anderson preceded him in death as well. He is survived by his sister-in-law Joyce Pirtle of Colleyville, TX.
Howard retired from National Supply when the plant closed and finished his work years with the City of Gainesville Water Department. Over the years he and Sally traveled extensively throughout the USA, Europe, Japan, Canada and Mexico.
He enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren which include Jo Lynn Reed Ochs of Hawaii, Jenny Reed of Jackson, TN, Chris Gibson of Lake Kiowa, Michael Chase and Neely Raye Reed of Big Sandy, TX; Melanie Gibson and Mia Wood of Sanger, TX, Rachel Ann Impastato of Gainesville as well as William Lincoln Impastato and Victoria Sheyenne Reed who preceded him in death.
His great grandchildren include Madeline Ochs of Hawaii; Raylee Grace and Kace Joshua Wenzel of Big Sandy, TX; Kira, Aaron and Cameron Cupples of Memphis, TN; Trent Baker, Donovan Genzel and Kaitlen and Collin Gibson of Lake Kiowa, TX.
He also enjoyed his numerous nieces, nephews as well as his great nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted by George J. Carroll & Sons in Gainesville, TX. Viewing will be Saturday, June 12, from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm with a graveside pavilion service on Sunday, June 13, 3:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, TX.
