Howard William Kaler, 90, of Gainesville, peacefully passed away on April 21, 2023. He was born on September 25, 1932 in Winfield, TX.
Howard and his wife, Thelma Plumlee Kaler, were Nocona High School sweethearts and were married on July 15, 1950. The newlyweds promptly moved to West Texas where Howard began his long career in the oilfield as a roughneck for Herman Duck, an independent driller from Nocona.
The Kalers moved to Wichita Falls in 1954 and Howard began his career as a Lease Broker and Wildcatter. The family moved again in 1960 to Gainesville, and after many dry holes and some small successes, established Kaler Oil Company, Inc. Howard never completely retired as CEO until Friday, April 21, 2023.
Mr. Kaler was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Alice Kaler; wife Thelma Plumlee Kaler; son William (Bill) Thomas Kaler; daughter JoEtta Kaler; granddaughter Missy Manley.
Howard is survived by his daughter Sharon Kaler Burnside; grandsons: Howard and wife Stormie Kaler, Thomas Plumblee, and W. T. Kaler; granddaughters: Casey Burnside and husband Mike Schober, and Stacy Burnside and husband Chris Culp; six great-grandchildren: Emma, Luke, Gracie, Robert, Lennox, and Max.
The family is holding a Graveside service for Mr. Kaler in Fairview Cemetery.
