Jackie Evans

Funeral services for Jackie Evans, 91, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Hollis Parsons officiating.  Interment will follow at Sycamore Cemetery in Decatur.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 16 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Evans passed away April 15, 2019 in Gainesville.

Jackie was born May 30, 1927 in Sand Hill, Mississippi to Willoughby Calvin and Maggie Victoria (Prine) Byrd.  She was raised in Sand Hill and graduated from high school there.  She was married to Jay Evans for nearly 50 years until his passing.  Mrs. Evans flourished in her career as a nurse because of the joy she received from caring for others.  She was also a restaurateur for many years.  Mrs. Evans was a skilled seamstress, creating many pieces by crocheting and sewing.

Survivors include: daughter Sue Wilson and husband Ron of Gainesville; son Bill Jackson and wife Anita of Wichita Falls; daughter Margie Quillen and husband Danny of Little Elm; son Jay Evans Jr. of Chico; son Reuben Evans of Portales, NM; daughter Barbara Evans of Abilene; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister Nell Hilton of Leakesville, MS; sister Bonnie Diamond of Mobile, AL; and brother William Byrd and wife Ruby of Citronelle, AL.

Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son Ronald Jackson; son Jerry Jackson; daughter Theresia Moffitt; and granddaughter Tiffany Jackson.
