James Michael Briggs (Jimmy)

James Michael Briggs (Jimmy), 70, of The Colony, Texas passed away November 14, 2024 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton, Texas. He was born on April 11, 1954 in Gainesville, Texas to Tommy and Imogene (Burrow) Briggs Sr.

Jimmy graduated from Gainesville High School in 1972, from owning a small business in Gainesville, he decided to sell it and work on the Alaskan Pipeline as a welder.  Jimmy later co-owned The Colony Tire and Auto for several years. Upon selling that business, Jimmy went back into the oilfield sector of the economy.  Upon retiring in 2008, Jimmy married the love of his life, Brenda Holderman Briggs.

Growing up in Gainesville, Jimmy attended Calvary Baptist Church and played sports at The Boys Club and throughout school.  As Jim became an adult, he found his roots in another small-town community, The Colony, TX.  While living in The Colony, Jimmy was very involved in starting a youth football league which is still going strong today. He will be missed by friends and family in Gainesville and The Colony.

James is survived by his beloved wife Brenda Briggs, his beloved Mother-in Law Jimmie Fay Holderman, Sons Buck Briggs, Robert Briggs and Travis Briggs, Stepdaughter Mollie Murphy, Sister Kathy Briggs Smith and husband Terry Smith, Sister-in-Law April Waggoner and her husband Ryan, Brother-in-Law Kirk Holderman, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 3 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Father Tommy Briggs Sr., Mother Imogene Briggs, Brother Tommy Briggs Jr., Father-in-Law Bill Holderman, Stepson, Jeramy Murphy, grandparents, William Henry Briggs, Carrie “Cricket” Fleenor, John Burrow and Eva Burrow, several cousins and aunts and uncles.

There are no services planned at this time.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
