James Edward Fields

August 31, 1929 — April 26, 2022

James Edward Fields, age 92, on August 31, 1929, to the late Pharis Jasper Fields and Annie Fields of Adairsville, GA.  James passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 in Sherman.

Mr. Fields was devoted to his family.  He spent many weekends camping, boating, and fishing with his wife and girls.

A graduate of West Georgia College and the University of Georgia, Mr. Fields spent hi career in public education.  From 1953 to 1983, he taught classes, coached, was an assistant principal, and served as Visiting Teacher for the Whitfield County School System.  He was “legendary” for his accomplishments as an educator.  Although Mr. Fields felt education was very important, in his later years, the topic of his conversation often centered on Jesus Christ and the Bible.  He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Mr. Fields was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Fields, and a sister, Mildred Smith.

James is survived by daughters Marilyn Miller (Philip), and Jamie Larkin (John); grandchildren Philip Miller, Jr. (Allison), James Miller (Jordan), Robbie Ann Williams (Jerrod), Beth Hayes (Nick), and Mary Larkin; 4 great-grandchildren:  Jacob, Katelyn, Philip Joseph, III, and Sybil.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastor Randy Taylor officiating.
