James T. Floyd, fondly known as "Junior" or "Grandpa", of Gainesville, passed away on January 26, 2025 at the age of 93.
He was born in Denison, TX to James Carlton Floyd and Dorothy Mae (Shindler) Floyd on July 6, 1931. He married Wanda Fae Smith in 1952 and shared 63 years of happiness. He was a devoted father to his two children, James K. Floyd and LaQuita (Floyd) Moore.
James served 2 years with the United States Army in Hawaii where he trained infantrymen on the mechanics of the M1 Garand service rifle. He went on to spend another 5 years in the Army Reserves as a radioman. This led him to start Floyd's TV and Electronics Repair which served Cooke County for many years. He went on to spend his later working years at Weber Aircraft (Safran). After retiring from the professional world, he spent his days working as a bus driver and substitute teacher.
James was a private pilot and helped in the establishment of Freedom Field Airport. He was also a Charter Member of the Cooke County Amateur Radio Club and the local Moose Lodge, serving as President of both organizations. His leisure time was spent making QSO (contact) with other HAM Radio Operators all over the world, tinkering with electronics, dancing, and playing bingo.
He is survived by son James K. Floyd (Doris); daughter LaQuita Moore; grandchildren: Jonathan Floyd (Shannon), Jaime Noles (Brian), and Shawn Moore (Krista); great-grandchildren: Jaxie, Jameson, Abby, Branton, Ashlyn, and Jakob. He is also survived by his brothers: Johnny, George, and Clyde, and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents James C. and Dorothy Floyd; wife Wanda; son-in-law Johnny M. Moore; several brothers, sisters and in-laws.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 1:00pm with funeral services to follow at 2:00pm at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, 602 Lindsay St. Gainesville, TX. Burial at New Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, Gainesville, TX.
