Funeral services for James Wilford Sandmann, 83, of Lindsay will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021, at 10:00 am, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay, with Father Matthew Tatyrek officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery under the direction of George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Rosary services will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 31 at the funeral home.
James Sandmann died January 27 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.
He was born on January 26, 1938, in Lindsay, the youngest of thirteen children to Bernard (Ben) and Catherine Hermes Sandmann.
Sandmann graduated from Lindsay High School. He served in the army, and upon his discharge in 1962 he worked for James Geray, the Red River Farm Coop, and as a machinist at Valenite for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Texas Farm Bureau and the Lindsay Gun Club Hall.
He enjoyed metal detecting with his nephews, going to casinos with family and friends, grafting pecan trees, and shelling them with his brother Herman.
He is survived by his brother, Bernard Sandmann of Sherman, and sister, Ethel and her husband Gene Schmidlkofer of Gainesville, and was beloved by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings and their spouses, Mary, Anna and George Bayer, Rose and Edgar Klement, Julius and Marie Sandmann, Henry and Lorene Sandmann, Herman, Clem and Rita Sandmann, Joe, Agnes, Max and Kay Sandmann, and sister-in-law Joan Sandmann.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Clarence Bayer, Leon Klement, Carl Sandmann, Nick Sandmann, Roger Sandmann, and Michael Schmidlkofer. Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Sandmann, and Mark Sandmann.
