James Leighton Smith

James Leighton Smith, age 83 passed away on November 4, 2020 at Presbyterian Hospital, Denton, TX.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 7 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery with interment by Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.  Anthony Dresser and Mike Hines will officiate.

Leighton Smith was born August 28, 1937 to Jack and Sylvia Mae Smith in Woodbine.  He graduated from Gainesville High School and later East Texas State College in Commerce in 1960.  He married Janette Watson on June 23, 1962.  He raised peanuts, hay and cattle.  Over 50 years were spent as a tractor and farm equipment dealer, S & W Tractor, Inc.

Leighton is survived by his wife, Janette Smith, one daughter Deborah Daniel, two sons, Harvey Jack Smith and Luke Smith, seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, two sisters Kaye Eldredge, Gainesville, Norma Faye Young, Marlow, OK, two brothers, Armon Smith and Paul Smith, Gainesville.

Leighton was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Selby and brother, Shelby Smith.
