Janie Maude Hays Martin, 87 years old, was called to her eternal home 4PM, Ash Wednesday, February 17 2021. Janie has resided in Gainesville Texas for over the past 20 years.
Janie was preceded in death by her brother Fred Hays and husband Dr. Billie E. Martin, whom she was married to for 32 years at the time of his passing in 2018.
Born on August 1, 1933 in Carthage TX; she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior as a young girl and ensured her children and grand-children were taught the faith. She was an active member of the Temple Baptist Church in Gainesville, and an avid prayer warrior. She loved the card game Skip Bo and played it up until her dying days. She was a character to be reckoned with at times and often would have words that struck up laughter with her family.
Janie was one of the 1st female store managers for Safeway groceries here in Texas and managed several stores in her approximate 10-year career. After marrying Dr. B.E. Martin in July of 1985, she retired from Safeway only to pick up on her dream of being a hair stylist/beautician and ended up opening her own salon in Denton. She continued to cut and style hair until her health no longer supported her in it. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her 2 sisters; Sally and Howard Gibson of Gainesville TX and Joyce Ann Pirtle of Colleyville TX. As well as her 5 children (3 daughters and 3 sons): Dr. Ken and Dana Martin of Malvern AR, Elizabeth Gayle and Danny Fitch of Longview TX, John Keith Weaver of Longview TX, Janie Carol High of Royse City TX, Deborah Claudette Thomas of Lindale TX, and Lynn Dale Thomas of Gainesville TX.
