Jess A. Trowbridge,74, left this world to begin the next chapter of his life on April 19, 2024.
Jess was born in Carlisle Pennsylvania on February 17th, 1950, and was adopted by Jess and Georgia Trowbridge after his birth mother died giving birth. He was raised in New York and attended the New York Military Academy, graduating in 1969. Because of his prowess as a baseball pitcher, he was offered a scholarship to West Point and scouted by the New York Mets. However, he chose to move to Texas with his remaining family after losing his father. He attended Sam Houston State University for a time, did a walk on baseball tryout and was signed by the minor league and quickly moved up to pitch for the Houston Astros until he was drafted into the military. He spent the next 3 years in the Army and then enlisted in the Navy for 4 more years.
Jess worked a variety of jobs post service including offshore commercial fishing, oil field work and sales until he became a licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. He met and married his wife, Linda, and spent the next period of his life serving others, setting up new treatment facilities, and raising their three children. He went back to nursing school and graduated at the age of fifty, then went back to obtain his bachelor's degree shortly thereafter. He worked in the neurological ICU for several years before returning to the mental health field and worked in that setting until he retired, having a significant impact and being an inspiration for many people from all walks of life. He will be remembered for his many meaningful quotes (Jesserisms) and stories he used in his counseling practice. However, he was most proud of his three children and often referred to raising and loving his children as the most important work of his life. He was never afraid to try new things, viewing all things as a new adventure. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending time fishing and playing golf. He was a gentle spirit and loved all animals and enjoyed writing poetry.
Jess is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda; son Jess (wife Ashley) and their children, Brandt, Avery and Aliviah of Sadler; son Wes of Savoy, and daughter Taylor (husband Bobby Armstong) and their children, Ryder, and Abby of Saint Jo. He is preceded in death by parents, Jess and Georgia Trowbridge, father and mother-in-law, James and Gerta Geray and many friends and associates, including close friend Sam Hill.
