Jessie Mary Smith Porter

Jessie Mary Smith Porter was born June 23, 1941 in Gainesville, TX to the proud parents Ida Hooker and William Hardy Smith.  Jessie attended Booker T. Washington High School and graduated with her diploma in 1959.  Jessie, an amazing mother, grandmother, and family champion, transitioned from this life on October 29, 2018.  She was well loved by her friends and family and leaves to cherish her loving memory, daughter Sherri Lynn Purvey; brothers:  Roderick Pegues, Victor Pegues, Adrian Pegues, William Hardy, Jr; sisters:  Carolyn Holland, Valerie Elder, Stephanie Lawson, and Peggy Maxey; four grandchildren:  Chauncey Purvey, Terrius Purvey, Tyler Purvey, and Chaney Purvey;  five great-grandchildren:  Braylon Purvey, Carmelo Purvey, Chauncey Purvey, Aaliyah Purvey, and Maiya Woods; a special nephew Michael Steward; a goddaughter Brandi Pegues; and a host of nieces and nephews and an uncountable number of wonderful relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William Hardy & Ida Pegues; a stepfather she adored, Robert Pegues; her loving husband Ernest Porter; and siblings Virginia Manuel, Dwight Smith, and Bruce Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
