Joe Lee Case was born on December 24, 1953 to Weldon Lee "Dick" and Edwina Pauline Moseley Case. His timing did not fit into his mother’s schedule causing her to miss a Christmas party that he would hear about for years to come. Joe grew up in Gainesville and graduated from Era High School. As soon as he finished school he began working with his brother in law, Bob Knabe, for Felderhoff Drilling. He was also employed at Continental Trailways, Nolan Chevrolet, Oklahoma Steel and Wire, Groendyke Transport, and Brown Motor Company. After work and on weekends he could be found in his mother's garage building race cars and repairing what he and his friends tore up.
In the mid 1980’s Joe opened his own shop and did the work he loved until cancer robbed him of that ability. He met his wife, Susan Stratton Case, while match racing on West California Street in front of Cooke County College. They married Oct 9, 1982. From their love sprang two caring, hardheaded daughters not unlike their parents.
Joe would share his love for mechanics and racing with his family and anyone who wanted to share his passion. He prided himself on being a one man operation and treating the president and the plumber with the same respect, as long as they did the same in return. He enjoyed weekends at the lake when we was not at the race track.
October 9, 2019 he was diagnosed with Adrenal Carcinoma and Multiple Myeloma which took him from this world on May 11, 2020. He fought hard with what time he had. His work/shop has been a staple in this community for more than 40 years.
Joe was preceded in death by both parents.
He is survived by his wife Susan, daughters Holley Mesta and husband Dan (who Joe named “Go Sit In The Truck”), and Mallory along with Devon Harbuck, 3 granddaughters and a bonus granddaughter, 2 sisters, 2 nieces he loved dearly, several cousins and more close friends that became family than could ever be listed.
A visitation will be held Saturday May 16, 2020 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral home. The family encourages friends and family to drive their hot rods as that is what Joe would want. Please come as you are. Dirty/greasy hands appreciated!
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke and Fannin Counties as a thank you for the amazing care they provided to him in his final days.
