John S. Aston

A very loved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was born on May 26, 1938 in Reliance, VA to Elizabeth and Verna Hugh Aston.  In 1957 he moved to Texas and married the now late Phyllis Holley-Aston in 1960.  From 1960 to 1968, he worked for the Texas Highway Department in Engineering.  Then from 1968 to 1993 he served for the Cooke County Sheriff's Office.  He was former Sheriff of Cooke County from 1983 to 1992.  In 1993, until 2005, he served as Sergeant for Denton County Sheriff's Office where he retired, serving a total of 42 years in Law Enforcement.

Mr. Aston passed away in Gainesville on May 19, 2021.

John has two sons, Jeff Aston and Keith Aston and wife Janine all of Gainesville; 6 grandchildren:  Jennifer Johnston and husband Jason, Jessica McCann and husband Eric, Cameron Aston and wife Lauren, Lauren Singer and husband Adam, Katie Davis and husband Ben, Dillon Aston and fiancé Taylor Dudenhoeffer; 6 great-grandchildren:  Madalynn and Presleigh Johnston, Laityn and Landon McCann, Maverick Aston and Mason Ellis.

Mr. Aston is also survived by his brother Mike Aston of Colorado, aunt and uncle Peggy and Bill Aston of Waco, in-laws Dwight and Hellen Holley of Gainesville, and late life companion Linda Call.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, May 24, 2021 in Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Larry Kremling officiating.  A visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
