John R. "Buddy" Schingle, Sr.

John R. Schingle, Sr. of Gainesville passed away on July 31, 2022 at North Texas Medical Center, Gainesville, TX.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gainesville, with inurnment in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lindsay, to follow.

John was born June 24, 1935 in Memphis, TN.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan.  After his discharge, he attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Oklahoma and spent his career in aviation.  John wed Jo Ann Turner in Memphis, TN on September 2, 1961.

John leaves behind his wife of nearly 61 years, Jo Ann Schingle; sons: John Jr. and wife Barb of Irving, TX, George and wife Cathy of Nevada, TX, and Phillip and wife Carla of Carrollton, TX; daughter Angela and husband Tommy Smith of Whitesboro, TX; brothers: Louis Schingle of Byhalia, MS, and Frank Schingle of Knoxville, TN; sisters: Julia Gilliland of Olive Branch, MS, and Lillian Reno of Stilwell, KS; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by: parents Joseph A. and Lillian Schingle, Sr.; brother Joseph A. Schingle, Jr.; and infant grandson Justin Schingle.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in John’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
