Jose Angel Almaraz, 88, of Gainesville, passed away on November 24, 2020 in Gainesville, Texas with his family by his side. Jose was born on January 8, 1932 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Timoteo Almaraz and Francisca Mendez. Jose dated Lucina Torres for 5 years before marrying her in Villa Aldama, Chihuahua, Mexico. They were married for 63 years.
Jose was a farmer in Mexico’s agricultural industry raising cattle as well as owning horses. For most of his life, he was a cultivator of corn, bean, and wheat production in Mexico. He enjoyed traveling with his wife while visiting his children in different parts of the United States and Mexico. He was a very happy person who always brought joy and smiles to all who knew him. He was dedicated to his family and enjoyed spending time with his children.
He is survived by his children: Daughter Maria (Lorenzo) Soto of Phoenix, AZ, Son Abel (Maria) Almaraz of Gainesville, TX, Daughter Rosa Trevino of Chicago, IL, Daughter Luz (Ricardo) Bonilla of Chicago, IL, Daughter Socorro Almaraz of Chicago, IL, Son Angel (Alejandra) Almaraz of Gainesville, TX, Son Francisco (Grabiela) Almaraz of Phoenix, AZ, Son Javier (Norma) Almaraz of Gainesville, TX, Son Victor (Paola) Almaraz of Whiteboro, TX and Daughter Olga (Miguel) Morales of Celma, California. He has 45 grandchildren and also great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is preceded by his parents Timoteo and Francisca Almaraz, son Rodolfo and daughter Olivia Almaraz. Grandson Angel Soto and great grandchildren Brian Soto and Genevieve Soto.
Funeral service will be Monday November 30th at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gainesville, TX followed by graveside at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, TX under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be held 6:00 PM Sunday, November 29, 2020 at the funeral home.
