Kathy Jean Grotte

Funeral services for Kathy Jean Grotte, 77, of Gainesville, TX, are scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Family visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 1, 2023, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the funeral home.

Kathy was born June 16, 1946, in Gainesville, TX. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1964. Kathy married Joe Grotte, Jr. in Marietta, OK, on June 13, 1964. Kathy loved to crochet and attend arts and craft shows. She provided many of her crocheted blankets to family and friends as gifts. She also enjoyed collecting angels and nativity scenes, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and music concerts and traveling to Branson, MO, for many years with her husband. In addition to her own children, Kathy helped rear many children that she considered her own. No child entered her home without feeling cared for and loved. She made every holiday special, especially Easter when the entire backyard was filled with eager children hoping to find the “prize” egg.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe; daughters Shona (Nathan) Dunson of McKinney, TX, and Shantelle (Michael) Lawler of Gainesville, TX; son Shawn (Elizabeth) Grotte of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren Caleb (Alex) Dunson; Austin (Kali) Dunson; Jordan (Julia) Dunson; Micah (Richard) Resnick; Leah (Chris) LaBarba; Lauren Grotte and Thomas Grotte; seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends that she considered family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Connie Riley and sister, Marilyn Watts.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Dunson, Austin Dunson, Jordan Dunson, Thomas Grotte, Richard Resnick and Nathan Winters. Honorary pallbearers are Weldon Turner, Rodney Fleenor, Dan Schafer, Glenn McLerran, Mike Gentry, E.O. Moser and Gary Hillis.
