Larry Dan Marion of Gainesville, TX passed away peacefully on February 4, 2022, at the age of 82, at Baylor Scott and White-Centennial Hospital in Frisco, TX.
Larry was born on January 19, 1940, in Borger, TX to Paul and Elva Mae Marion. He married Linda Murray Marion on June 19, 1961. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and papa and to all who knew him.
He graduated from Gainesville High School and attended Decatur Baptist and University of North Texas where he attained his Bachelor’s in Business. Shortly after he joined the Air Force in 1963 and did his basic training in San Antonio at Lackland. From there he was transferred to Missouri Whiteman Air Force Base as a military policeman. In 1965 he was stationed in Turkey for 18 months before he was honorably discharged due to medical reasons.
Upon returning home from the military, he knew he needed to provide for his growing family and held a variety of jobs from being a car salesman to a butcher in the local grocery stores, until he landed a good job at Poco Graphite in Decatur, TX for 20 plus years as a sales representative. After several years invested into this company, he retired but it wasn’t long before he came out of retirement and back working at the local grocery store and finally decided to retire again at the age of 78.
When Larry found some free time, he had a passion for his Harley Davidson and joined the Cooke County Riding Club and would love just to take off a mid-afternoon ride and enjoy the fresh air and take in the sights. He also loved being with his family and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Larry was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church.
Larry is survived by his wife of 60 years Linda Marion of Gainesville, TX; Son, Wayne Marion of Austin, TX; Son, Jeff Marion of Gainesville, TX; Son, Brett Marion and wife Jan of Lindsay, TX; Daughter, Nicole Jones and husband Donald of Gainesville, TX; Brother-in-law Cloyce Bragg of Murphy, TX; and Sister-in-law, Patty Marion of Oklahoma; Grandchildren include; Stephen and Hayley Marion, Donald Jones, Sean Marion, Delaina and Shaylee Jones, Natashia Ervine, Brittany, Sara, and Damon Marion, and 19 Great- Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Elva Mae Marion of Gainesville, TX; Sister, Jean Bragg of Highland Village, TX; Brother, Paul Tommy Marion of Gainesville, TX, and Brother and Sister-in-law Dewayne and Gay Marion of Callisburg, TX.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Marion, Sean Marion, Damon Marion, Dewayne Marion, Phillip Murray, and Darrin Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Fleitman
Visitation for Larry Marion will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home on Thursday February 10, 2022, from 5:30-7:30pm
Funeral services will be held Friday; February 11, 2022, at 10am at Geo J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home followed by interment in Fair View Cemetery, Gainesville, TX.
