Larry Gene Payne

Larry Gene Payne, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 15th, 2021 at the age of 75. Larry was born in Whitesboro, Texas on August 27th, 1945 to Claude and Nettie Ann Dunning Payne.

Larry graduated from Gainesville High School in 1963 and then attended Cooke County College.He then served his country in the US National Guard. He worked for Santa Fe and BNSF Railroad until his retirement, and later for his son-in-law at TNT Color Service until his passing. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 210.

He was married to Kathy Brewer in 1966, then later was married to Pat West Fenley in 1985. Larry loved his family more than anything. He enjoyed hunting with his brothers, talking about trains, cooking, and talking to people in general. He loved spending time with his grandchildren Macie Kindiger, Jacob Kindiger and Jared Fenley. His smile and wild sense of humor was infectious to anyone in his presence. He had a magic about him where it didn’t matter what mood you were in, Larry could always be the highlight of your day. He had a deep faith and committed his life to his God.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Payne and Nettie Ann Dunning Payne, his first wife, Kathleen Diane Brewer, his younger brother Thomas Keith (Pete) Payne and older brother Claude Payne Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Payne. His daughters, Cristin Payne and Stephanie & Tony Davis. His step-sons Gary Don & Christy Fenley, Dewayne & Dana Fenley and Bradley & Donna Fenley. His grandchildren Macie Kindiger, Jacob Kindiger, and Jared Fenley. Brother, Gerald (Booty) & Cathy Payne and sister, Judith Holcomb. Nieces and nephews Michael & Sarah Payne, Nickolas & Rachel Payne, Sgt. Major Alex Payne, retired & Amy Payne, Julie & Edward Warfield, Jill Payne and Christopher Holcomb.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the NTMC nursing staff and doctors for their exceptional care.

The family plans on a private service at a later date.
