Larry Ancil West

October 9, 1958 — September 24, 2020

Larry Ancil West went to his heavenly home September 24, 2020 following a short stay in Medical City Lewisville.  He was born October 9, 1958 in Gainesville, Texas to Lucian Ancil (L.A.) West and Helen Ritcherson Sears West.  He attended school in both Thackerville, OK and Gainesville, TX. He graduated from Cooke County College (now North Central Texas College.)  As a young boy he was baptized at Harvey Street Baptist Church.

Larry was very patriotic and loved his country.  He enlisted in the US Navy and served from November 1975 to May 1985. His service time was something he took great pride in discussing with anyone who would listen, and he did have many stories.

March 28, 1992 he married Elizabeth (Liz) Tamplin Smith.  He was proud to claim his ready-made family and even happier when the family begin to grow. To this union a son, Michael Keith and a daughter, Elise Nicole were born.  Better employment opportunities took him to the metroplex where he enhanced his technology skills significantly, and grew to have his own business.

Larry was a competitive person who loved games of all types and would work hard to win.  He also enjoyed bowling and earned many trophies for this sport.  Boating and fishing were two of his passions, so a weekend or vacation at the lake brought him great joy.  His love for motorcycles began at the early age of ten when he received his first dirt bike.  As long as he was able, he rode and traveled on one of his many machines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Mike McHorse, and nephew, Chad Reed.  Survivors include his wife Liz; son Steven Smith and wife, Amanda of Little Elm, TX; son Michael Keith West of Lewisville, TX; daughter Elise Driver and husband Toby of Lewisville, TX; sister Elaine McHorse, Gainesville; and two grandchildren, Sebastian and Aria Smith.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 27, 5:00-7:00 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be Monday, September 28, 10:00 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thackerville, OK.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
