Lila Beth Flowers Davis

Lila Beth Flowers Davis (90) of Lake Kiowa, Texas passed from the loving arms of her family on August 20, 2024.

Lila was born December 14, 1933, on East Broadway Street in Gainesville, Texas to Charles and Hallie Clarke Flowers.

When she was about five years old the family moved further west along Broadway Street beside her beloved playground, Pecan Creek. She, along with her siblings and friends, spent many hours playing in the creek and on the large iron bridge.  Lila loved her school years at Robert E. Lee Elementary School. While attending Gainesville Junior High School, Lila enjoyed cheering on the Panthers. During high school, she was a Majorette, a Hi-Y Sweetheart, and an FHA Sweetheart. She remained best friends with her “Hotties” group: Jane Gayle Crawford Moss, Joanne Lester Jones, Letha Ansley, Pat Smallwood, Barbara Gregory, and Wilda Amorosa Wendt.

Lila had five wonderful siblings: Warren G. Flowers, Charlene Flowers King, David C. Flowers, Harley G. Flowers, and Nancy Flowers Hellman.

Lila grew up with a love for history. She became a member of several lineage organizations including The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and The United Daughters of the Confederacy. Lila also served in both the local Daughters of the Republic and the Direct Descendants of David Crockett, and for a time, became President of each. Lila was very proud to be the second great granddaughter of David Crockett and was the oldest living descendent.

On March 21, 1953, Lila married Bobby Gene Davis. They were together over sixty-five years and were blessed with four precious children starting with Robert L. Davis, followed by Rene’ Davis Ortowski (Frank), Ronna Beth Davis Payne (Rick), and Rorry G. Davis. Bobby (Dugan) spent twenty-five years in the United States Navy. While living the Navy life, Lila loved moving, meeting new friends, and learning about different cultures. When Bob retired from the Navy, the family moved back to Gainesville, Texas. There she continued her love for history by joining the Morton Museum where she volunteered under Mrs. Parks-Hayes and then joined the Historical Society. She was a member of the Collinsville Church of Christ and the local Chamber of Commerce. Lila also managed a ladies dress shop called The Band Box for several years before finally retiring from the Cooke County Library in 1992.

Lila is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and one sister. She is survived by her four children, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one sister, and many nieces and nephews. Over the years she was referred to as Mama, Mother, Mom, Mamacita, Grannie, and Grannie Lila. All of these say goodbye with much love.

Preacher Ben Willingham of Callisburg Church of Christ will be conducting the service. Serving as pallbearers: Jarred Turbeville, Jace Turbeville, David Payne, Chris Payne, Derek Davis, Marlon Morrow, Daryl Hellman, Ivy Hellman, and Jonathan Adams.

Services will be at George J. Carroll Funeral Home, Gainesville, TX, on Monday, August 26, 2024.  The family will begin receiving friends at 10:00 a.m. and a funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m.  A committal service will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville, TX.
