Longden Jefferson Savage, Jr. was born to Longden Jefferson “Red” Savage Sr. and Marie Carpenter Savage on July 23, 1923. He departed this life Sunday October 9, 2022 at the age of 99. He lived the majority of his life in Gainesville, Tx., graduating from Gainesville High School.
Mr. Savage entered the United States Navy when he was 18 and served in WWII being stationed in Hawaii at Phudenai Naval Station in Maui. After the war he worked for Bell Telephone, troubleshooting installations all over the United States. While working in Missouri he met and married Laura Barnett. They began their married life in Granite City, Illinois, where their only son Larry A. Savage was born. They moved to Texas and back home to Gainesville in 1956.
L.J. Savage, Jr. was well known for his TV Repair Service in and around Gainesville for many years. He was a jack of all trades, owning many rental properties in Gainesville and doing the majority of repairs and renovations himself.
L.J. and Laura raised chickens and had a fondness for dogs. In his later years he taught himself to program his home computer, kept all his financial records and did his own taxes until as recently as 2019. L.J. had a brilliant mind and a huge heart. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
L.J. Savage, Jr., was preceded in death by his parents. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Barbara Savage Perry, Wanda Savage Leatherwood, his brother-in-law Jimmy Perry and his daughter-in-law Deborah K. Savage. He is survived by his only son, Larry A. Savage, grandchildren Karen Sue Federwisch and companion Towomi Carlton, Krystal Chapa and husband Tony, and Burton Jefferson Savage. Also he is survived by great-grandchildren, Cameron Chapa and partner Veronica Arana, A. J. Chapa, Benjamin Chapa, and Isaiah Federwisch. He is survived by one great-great-grandchild, Daniel Chapa, and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Chapel with Dell Stine officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.
