Loraine C. Shea

Loraine C. Shea, formerly of Covington, LA. Passed away on August 1, 2022 in Gainesville, Texas at the age of 90.  Loraine was born January 11, 1932 in Sherman, TX. to Weldon, and LaVelle Cain.  She attended Sherman public schools, and Austin College.  In 1960 Loraine married John Shea, and moved to Gainesville where they owned a successful horse business showing ponies, Hackneys, quarter horses, and paint horses.  In 1967 they moved their business to Covington, LA.

Loraine was a charter member of the TBRA barrel racing assn, founding member of the American Paint Horse Association, and a race horse breeder and owner. She was an avid deep-sea tournament lady angler, and an exotic bird breeder owning LaJon Aviary.

She loved all sports, especially her New Orleans Saints. Lately her passion was the Cowboy Channel, and watching all things rodeo.  But her granddaughter, Shea Wells, was the highlight of her life, and Nana was her beloved title.

Loraine is survived by her daughters, Vickie Adams of Gainesville, Lorye Wells, and husband Gary of Overbrook, OK; granddaughter Shea Wells, and fiancé Jake Jewell of Norman, OK; niece Shelley Paclik, nephew Rhett Shellenberger, and extended family Jan VanHoorebeke, and Robert Hair.  Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Shea, and sister Sadie Shellenberger.

Visitation will be at 3:30 PM Friday August 5th with memorial service at 4:00 PM at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Gainesville, TX.
