Louise Penton

October 12, 1928 — November 13, 2019

Sophia “Louise” Penton, 91, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away November 13, 2019, at her home in Gainesville with her daughter, granddaughter, and beloved pet, Lily, by her side.  Funeral services, entrusted to Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, are scheduled for 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Whaley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gayle Landis officiating.  Burial will follow immediately at Fairview Cemetery of Gainesville, beside her late husband Robert “Bob” Penton.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday at Whaley UMC prior to the service.  Mrs. Penton will lie in state Friday evening at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home for those who would like to pay their respects prior to services on Saturday.

Louise was born October 12, 1928, to the late C.C. and Vera Pickett in Love County, Oklahoma.  Louise had many hobbies, which included hand quilting, and won several awards for her submissions.  She loved to play golf, but always considered herself a duffer instead of a golfer.  For many years, she and Bob raised a large vegetable garden and would provide neighbors with fresh produce.  Both Bob and Louise were well known in the community for the large paper shell pecan trees they had located on their property.  During the beginning of her married life, Louise worked with the Brownies and Girl Scouts.  During her long career life, she worked for many years with Dr. James Atchinson prior to his death, and then continued to work for other doctors in the Gainesville area.  She also worked for Gainesville Hospital for many years as a nurse and later as an insurance clerk.  Louise was active in the VFW Auxiliary (and throughout most of her life) and was a long-time member of Whaley United Methodist Church.

Louise was preceded in death by: her parents; husband Robert “Bob” Penton; brothers: Rawlin Pickett, W.T. Pickett, and James Pickett; sisters: infant Mae, Gladys Stinson, Isobel Earnhart, and Cavalyn Montgomery.

Survivors include: daughter Bobbie Pearson and husband David of Gainesville; granddaughters: Lisa Willey and Cynthia Adair; son-in-law Andy Pozin of Florida; and great-grandchildren: Jessica and Joshua Willey of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Home Hospice of Cooke, Grayson, and Fannin Counties for all the loving support and assistance they provided during their recent time of need.
