A Mass of Christian Burial for Louise Schad, 94, of Lindsay is scheduled for 10:00AM, Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay with Rev. Matthew Tatyrek officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Lindsay. Rosary will be said 6:30 PM Monday, January 7, 2019, at Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home in Gainesville followed by visitation. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Louise passed away at home Saturday, January 5, 2019. Louise Rose Hermes Schad was born February 14, 1924, in Gainesville, the second of eleven children to Clem Hermes and Amelia Rauschuber Hermes. Louise married Edward Anthony Schad on November 11, 1947 in Lindsay. They were a large happy family but there was a lot of work to be done so Louise learned to work hard at an early age helping on the farm as well as helping her mother with her younger brothers and sisters.
Louise’s first job was at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Throughout her life she has been an active volunteer. She served as an officer of Young Ladies Sodality, the St. Anne’s Society, Catholic State League, Lindsay Parent Teacher Club, and National Council of Catholic Women. She was a religious education teacher for St. Peter’s Catholic Church where she was a lifelong member. She served as a member of the St. Peter’s Parish Council which planned the construction of Centennial Hall at St. Peter’s. She volunteered at Denton State School where she spent many hours sewing curtains for the dormitories. As a reward she was invited to a banquet where she met Hubert H. Humphrey.
She was employed by Linda Jo Shoe Company for 15 years. She later started Hermes Sisters Catering. In 2004 she started the Lindsay Senior Citizens Group following her husband’s death. Last October, Louise and her sister Elfrieda Hundt received the "Hometown Hero" award from Lindsay ISD for their service to the community.
Louise is survived by two sons, Edward and wife Elaine of Valley View; Don and wife Donna of Lindsay; four daughters, Mary Jean Bayer and husband Melvin of Lindsay; Alice Kendall and husband Mike of Lindsay, Phyllis Schad of Lindsay; Joanie Wyrick and husband Larry of Lindsay; 24 grandchildren, Shannon Schad, Corey Schad, Mandy Reiter, Diana Bayer, Ed Schad, Tom Schad, Emmy Torockov, Angela Schad, Sister Cecilia Marie Bayer, John Bayer, Philip Bayer, Pat Bayer, and Mary Kate Simonsen, Mike Kendall, Jeff Kendall, Danny Kendall, Ryan Kendall, Erin Farris, Ben Wyrick, John Wyrick, Amelia Fuhrmann, Rose Hellinger, Laura Wyrick, and Theresa Wyrick. There are 50 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Gilbert Hermes, of Lindsay: and four sisters Elfrieda Hundt of Lindsay, Emilia Voth of Muenster, Rita Corcoran of Gainesville and Angela Haverkamp of Lindsay.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Clem and Amelia; husband, Edward; sons Joseph and Danny; two brothers, Clem and Joe Hermes; three sisters, Mary Hundt, Anna Hermes, and Bernice Strittmatter.
