Louise (Paschal) Stewart, 85, of Gainesville, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on June 14, 2019. She passed away in Deer Park, TX, where she had been living with her daughter since 2016.
Louise was born Feb. 5, 1934, to Andrew Jackson and Lola Galee (Lewter) Paschal in Gainesville. She grew up in a farming family and lived the first years of her life in the community of Dexter in eastern Cooke County, and attended Callisburg schools through the seventh grade. When Louise’s older brother graduated high school and formally joined the family farming business, the Paschals moved to a larger farm place in the Hood community in western Cooke County, where Louise graduated from Era High School.
Louise had a tremendous work ethic. She retired from her role as a youth activity supervisor at the Gainesville State School in 1992, though people remember her most from her post-retirement jobs, including her many years as the receptionist at Prosperity Bank and working at Anana’s on the square. Louise loved people, staying busy and working in retail. Over the years she also worked at The Tree House children’s clothing store, Bealls and the Lorch-Westway dress store. She retired for the final time in 2015 at the age of 81.
Louise loved her family, adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cherished her many dear friends. She was witty and wise, kind and classy, youthful and fun-loving. She had fabulous taste and loved sharing it with others. She especially enjoyed coffee and conversation.
Most importantly, Louise knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was secure in the blessed assurance of her eternity in Heaven with Him. She also loved her church family at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, where she was a faithful member for more than 53 years.
Louise is survived by her children: Thomas Powell, Sr. of Denison, TX; Janice (Powell) Long and husband David of Deer Park, TX; and Jamie (Stewart) Yeatts and husband Byron of Carrollton, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jana (Long) White and husband Ron of Deer Park, TX; Audra (Powell) Childers and husband Jonathan of Lipan, TX; Thomas Powell, Jr. and wife Laura of Katy, TX; and Lauren, Lily and Joy Yeatts, all of Carrollton, TX. Other survivors include daughter-in-law Dorothy Powell of Weatherford, TX, 12 great-grandchildren (Ethan and Evan White; Katelynn, Blake, Alanis, Emily and Bryer Childers; and Kadence, Thomas III, Ainsley, Dallin and Sutton Powell), and numerous wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Walter Lee Paschal; and longtime friend Harold Taylor.
Funeral services for Louise will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019, at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 315 E. Scott St., in Gainesville, TX, with the Rev. Darrell McIntyre officiating. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. in Grace Hall at Westminster prior to the service. The community will be able to pay their respects beginning Friday, June 21, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Elders of Westminster Presbyterian Church will be serving as pallbearers.
