A graveside service for Loyd Price Walters, 75, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Valley View Cemetery with Rev. Billy Neal officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, August 27 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Mr. Walters passed away August 24, 2018 in Gainesville.
Loyd was born July 31, 1943 in Bells to Loyd Francis and Vera Lee (Price) Walters. On December 30, 1964, he married Mary Sue Maughan, who was his partner in life and business for 33 years before her passing. Mr. Walters started Loyd Walters Builder Inc. in the mid-1970s and served as the contractor and builder of many homes and commercial buildings in Cooke County. He was also a real estate broker and served as President at a local chapter during the early 1980s. Mr. Walters’ true passion in life was Quarter Horses; he bred and raised many horses that became great working horses and event winners, especially in cutting events. Mr. Walters enjoyed traveling, especially for horse sales, reading, and spending time on his back porch. He married Sue Patterson on February 14, 2003, finding a new partner in life to enjoy his time with.
Survivors include: wife Virginia Sue Walters of Gainesville; daughter Teresa Sprouse and husband John of Gainesville; daughter Keri Taylor and husband Kyle of Gainesville; step-son Keith Ritter and wife Diana Osborne of Gun Barrel City; step-daughter Melissa Towne and husband Jeff of Commerce; step-daughter Pamela Matney and husband Scott of Rowlett; step-son Rudy Fernandez and wife Candace of Austin; grandchildren: Jacob, Dylan, and Michael Sprouse; Wade and Lucas Riddle; Brandon and Kandace Ritter; and Kiley Towne; sister Mary Sue Liggett and husband Charles of Bowie; sister Betty White of Bells; brother Benny Walters and wife Kathy of Madill, OK; one brother-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.
Mr. Walters was preceded in death by: his parents; and spouse Mary Sue Walters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Medal of Honor Host City Program.
