Macie Mae Darnell, 95, of Gainesville, passed away February 17, 2024 in Plano.

Macie was born November 28, 1928 in Woods County, OK.  She was raised in Woods County, Oklahoma and graduated from Waynoka High School.  Macie then graduated from nursing school in Wichita, KS.  She married William “Bill” Darnell on June 4, 1949.  Mrs. Darnell continued her nursing career at Gainesville Memorial Hospital after the family moved to the area in 1975.  In her free time, she enjoyed fishing and RV camping.  In retirement, she volunteered for many years at Pecan Tree Manor.  Mrs. Darnell was a faithful member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.  There she taught Sunday School for many years to the 2-year-olds and was THE unofficial greeter to new-comers.

Survived by: daughter Janie Coffey (Earnest) of Gainesville; daughter Susan Hart (Jim) of Allen; daughter-in-law Mickie Darnell of Watonga, OK; granddaughters Ginni Hall (Joseph), Audra Hart, Victoria Hart, and Courtney Hart; great-grandchildren Ty Wilder, Ashlynn Wilder, and Allee Hall; and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by: parents Orville and Audrey (Barker) Clarke; husband of 68 years, Bill Darnell; son Michael Darnell; brother Orville “Bub” Clarke; sister Renee Middleton; sister Mick Campbell; and sister Billie Hanan.

Services for Mrs. Darnell are scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, 2024.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.  A graveside service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the pavilion at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville.
