Marge Hutchins

October 11, 1934 — February 17, 2021

Marjorie Lee Hutchins “Nana”, 86 years old, went to her forever home on February 16, 2021.  She always had her own agenda, so it is no surprise that she left us during the largest snow storm in Texas history.  She fought hard and proved her doctors wrong by making memories, with her family and friends, for over 20 years longer than expected.

Born on October 11, 1934, in Poughkeepsie, NY to Wesley & Leila Harris, she & her siblings grew up in Clintondale, NY in the middle of an apple orchard.  After marrying Arnold Hutchins, they moved to Lexington, KY where they raised their family, until moving to Austin, TX.  After her children left the home, she moved to Denison, TX and started her career with BCBS TX, from which she retired and moved to Gainesville, TX.

Known as Marge, she loved to socialize and cook for her family and friends.  She had a personality that most people loved.  She had an infectious laugh.  She was a strong woman who helped raise strong girls and encouraged other women.  She was stubborn, but a fighter, and never met a stranger.  When she was a child, she would bring home every stray she found, and she continued to care for stray animals until her last days.

She was known as Nana by her grands and great-grands, yet she became Nana to hundreds of kids she cooked for at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cooke County, and the many others who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wesley Harris, and sister Shirley Passante.  She is survived by her siblings; Isham (Carole) Harris, Ft. Pierce, FL, Melissa (Bruce) Hoosier, Highland NY, James (Vivian) Harris, Ft. Pierce, FL.  As well as her children, Melissa (Kevin) Wilson, Gainesville, TX,  Lyle Hutchins, Powder Springs, GA and Dale Hutchins, Marietta, GA; Grandchildren, Crystal (Sam) Milo, Amber (Chad) Brem, Joshua (Crystal) Hutchins, and Kelsie Hutchins; Great-Grandchildren Madyson, Amiya, Taryn, Jaidyn, Jordin, Paxtyn and bonus Greats, Kaitlyn and Hayden.  Along with several nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation for friends and family is scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 PM on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
