Margene Bryan Enderby

February 6, 1924 — October 25, 2018

Margene Enderby passed away in peace Wednesday October 25, 2018 at the age of 94.  Margene was a wonderful woman, that was dearly loved, is missed and will always be cherished.  Our “Neenie” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother/great grandmother and the best cook in the kitchen!  Margene had a life well lived and was dedicated to her family.

Margene Bryan Cunningham was born in Dexter, TX on February 6, 1924, the oldest child to Paul Bryan and Gladys Cunningham.  She graduated from Whitesboro High School and attended North Texas University graduating with a Masters Degree in Education. Margene married the love of her life, James Abner Enderby of Gainesville on      February 6, 1942.  She and JA spent several years living on the family farm outside of Gainesville raising their three sons until moving into “town” and pursing her teaching career.

Margene made a huge impact on so many children, as she taught elementary school for 35 years in the Gainesville Independent School District.  Wherever she was around town, she would frequently run into one of her past students.

Margene was renowned for her collection of cook books, and her love of cooking and baking.  If you happened to drop by for a visit, Margene wouldn’t let you leave without one of her infamous bundt cakes!  Margene was talented in the kitchen and her food graced many family gatherings and holiday tables for many years.

Margene loved traveling, socializing with friends, knitting, quilting and volunteering in the community.  She was an active member of several bridge groups and book clubs.  Table Tops, held annually at the First United Methodist Church, where she and JA were members, was one of her all time favorite events.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.A. Enderby and is survived by her sister, Geneva Sluder of Hurst, TX; three children, James Lindsey Enderby, Thomas Stanley Enderby and wife Pam, Paul Bradley Enderby and wife Sharon; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 30, 2018 with the Rev. John Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. No visitation is planned.
