Marilyn Trubenbach Koontz

September 28, 1942 — August 12, 2022

Marilyn Trubenbach Koontz went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 12, 2022, in the loving care of her family. Marilyn was born September 28, 1942, in Sherman, TX, to Frank & Wilma Trubenbach.  She spent her childhood in Amarillo and then Dallas, where she attended St Monica’s school, Ursuline Academy, and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1960.  She then attended the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in fashion design and textiles.  She was also a member of Delta Zeta sorority.

After college, Marilyn returned to Dallas to work at Sears Roebuck and Co.  She met Cal, and her adventure really started!!  They married in 1968 and had two children, Angie and Kevin.  They moved to Corpus Christi, TX for Cal’s work in 1974, staying until 1988.

In addition to being active at her children’s schools, Marilyn and Cal were avid volunteers at church and in the community.  She was a member of the altar guild at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, volunteered for many non-profit organizations in Corpus Christi, and enjoyed her garden club family immensely!  In 1988, they moved to San Antonio, TX, and dove into the community there.  They were active members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she served on many committees, including altar guild and prayer team.  Her devotion to the church ministry eventually led her to a career at the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas, where she faithfully served the regional clergy and staff for over two decades.  They then retired to Gainesville, TX, in 2010 and enjoyed accruing yet another network of so many special friends.  She was always surrounded by fun-loving, caring friends from book clubs to regular dinner groups.  She and Cal served the Gainesville community in many ways.  One of her favorites was delivering meals for Dash to those in need.

Marilyn spent lots of time traveling to Peachtree City and Dallas to have a prosperous relationship with her grandchildren which was priceless to her.  She also had great travel memories with dear friends and family in her retirement years.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband Cal Koontz, her husband of 53 years; and brother John Bullion.  She is survived by her daughter Angie Russell and husband Andee of Dallas; son Kevin Koontz and wife Rachel of Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren:  Austin, Adam, and Andrew Russell of Dallas, Eden, Mia, Ava, and Quin Koontz of Peachtree City, GA; sister Ann Bullion-Mears; and sister-in-law Virginia Young and husband Jim of Ardmore, OK.

Marilyn was a blessing!  Her generous, friendly, and kind life will remain in the hearts of those privileged to have known her.
