Mark Allen Gunter

Mark Allen Gunter, 66, of Woodbine,Texas peacefully went to be with our Lord on March 30th, 2025 surrounded by loved ones, after a valiant battle with cancer.Mark was born on November 28, 1958 to Boyd and Norma Gunter in Gainesville, Texas. After attending high school in Callisburg, he set out on a long journey in the oilfield business. He started that journey with Guffey-Schlensker Oil Company and continued on by working off-shore for Rowan Oil Company and retiring from Devon Energy as an Oilfield consultant in November of 2023.Marked worked in the oil field for over 35 years and was very passionate about it and loved what he did for a living.

He met Shirley Diane Pence in April of 1989. Mark and Shirley were married on April 26, 1990 . Even though Mark and Shirley never had children of their own Mark loved Jeremy as his own and Shirley loved Cassie as her own. He and his wife Shirley resided in Grant, Alabama. Mark had a huge love for the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish. He was very passionate about guns and cars. He loved to be outdoors and spend time with his family. He was incredibly easy to talk to and never met a stranger. Mark was a beloved husband, father, friend, brother, son, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.Mark is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Gunter of Alabama, Son Jeremy Eddowes and wife Shonda of El Reno, Oklahoma; Daughter Cassie Cox (Gunter) and husband David of Lindsay, Texas; Sister Karen Vannoy of Woodbine, Texas; and Sister in law Debbie Merritt of Lindsay, Texas. He held a special place in his heart for his niece Brooksann Harris and nephews Brett and Colt Gunter

Mark was preceeded in death by his parents Boyd J. Gunter and Norma J. Gunter, his brother Ronald B. Gunter, infant daughter Lindsay Renee Gunter, nephew Brock Murray and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life for Mark will be held Friday, April 4th at the Woodbine Baptist church at 2pm.
