Ritta Marlene Fields, 97, of Whitesboro, passed away January 11, 2023 at her home in Whitesboro surrounded by her family.
Marlene was born August 30, 1925 in Delaware Bend to M.D. Sissney and Bessie Stowers Sissney. She graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1942 and married Sherman Scott Fields on July 18 of that year. They raised three children during their 52 years of marriage before Sherman’s passing in 1994.
Mrs. Fields was a key punch operator for UCLA in Los Angeles, CA and she retired from Baldwin Park School District in 1976. She was extraordinary at crocheting and cooking. Mrs. Fields enjoyed gardening and doing puzzles. She loved to ride her lawn mower and was known for keeping an immaculate yard. In recent years she treasured the time she was able to spend with her beloved sisters. Mrs. Fields was the matriarch of her family and she held that title proudly.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Dean Reed of Whitesboro; son Stanley Fields of Whitesboro and partner Charlotte Henry; grandchildren Beryl Reed, Joe and Toni Reed, Penny Reed, Steven Fields, and Laura and Joe Meek; great-grandchildren Pepper Reed, Katheryn Long, Ashleigh Reed, Tessa Kight, Todd Fields, Jackson Reed, Connor Reed, Christa Brown, and Jace Meek; great-great-grandchild Bria and Mason; sisters Dena Underwood of Whitesboro and Nelma Underwood of Whitesboro; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Fields was preceded in death by: parents M.D. and Bessie Sissney; husband Sherman Fields; daughter Phyllis Chapman; brothers Phelan Sissney and Homer Sissney; and sister Joan Underwood.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Oakwood Cemetery, Whitesboro. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 on Friday, January 13 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville.
