Funeral services for Marshall Newton King, 96, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Kremling officiating and the U.S. Navy rendering military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service.
Mr. King passed away September 17, 2019 in Gainesville.
Marshall was born September 29, 1922 in Annona, TX to Seneca Jones and Etta Gertrude (Noey) King. He was raised on the family farm in Annona and attended high school at Classen High in Oklahoma City. In his youth, he was enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Aleutian Islands and Okinawa. Mr. King married Ernestine Crofford on November 19, 1948 in Bonham, TX. He worked in the oil field, then went into partnership with his brother, opening King’s Garage. Mr. King retired in 1985, where he pursued the hobbies of hunting, fishing, and woodworking.
Survivors include: son Allan King and wife Theresa of Claremore, OK; daughter Joyce Knauf of Gainesville; grandchildren: Jennifer Parsons and husband Larry, Jeff Skaggs, and Sean King; great-grandchildren: Courtney, Payton, Keegan, and Kamdin; great-great-grandsons: Aaron and Cash; sister Joella Soward and husband James of Carrollton; brothers-in-law: Bill Crofford of Sterling, KS, and Dan Crofford of Moore, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mr. King was preceded in death by: wife Ernestine King; parents Seneca and Etta King; grandson Owen King; brothers: William, Iley, Burris, Willie, and Linford; sisters: Eula, Bertha, Linnie, and Lorene; and sisters-in-law: Mary King, Mary Crofford, Margie Butcher, and Mary Ann Crofford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Home Hospice of Cooke, Grayson, and Fannin Counties, 505 W Center St, Sherman, TX 75090.
