On August 24, 2021 our dear Mother, Martha Marie Krebs, 93, of Gainesville, Tx, reached out to the Lord as he decided to take her home. She was born in a little country town called Prairie Grove, which is now a part of Valley View. On July 29, 1928 Alvin Hawkins Shasteen and Ina Pearl (Lillard) Shasteen welcomed their first child and only daughter out of eight children. Her seven younger brothers loved her dearly and named her Sis but she was daddy's little darling.
There in Prairie Grove she walked to a one-room school building that was a church on Sundays. After her elementary years she went on to graduate from Valley View High School.
She worked at Linda Jo Shoe Factory, had a daycare, and for extra income she sold AVON for over fifty years. That meant if you were a family member or friend you never had to guess what you were getting for Christmas. She found her true calling when she became a nurse’s aide at the old Memorial Hospital, never turning down an extra shift. From there on, she decided to work as a care taker at peoples’ homes until she finally retired at the age of 81. She was the perfect example of a hard-working woman.
Martha was a faithful member of the Nazarene church until it closed its doors. After that she joined the church, House of Prayer. In her last years of life, she was unable to attend but never missed paying her tithes or watching church services on TV. Oh, how she loved the old hymnal songs.
If you knew Martha, you knew she was a huge collector of crystal and her continuously crocheting afghans for her loved ones. She enjoyed going to church, family reunions, taking care of her grandchildren, and making her famous banana bread (which no one could ever come close to no matter how hard we tried). She had many blessings in her life and one of them was marrying Eugene Roy Krebs on November 1, 1965.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene, her daughter Jennifer Franks, stepson Bobby Krebs, brothers Norman, Robert, A.E. "Gene", JIm, Wayne, and Larry Shasteen.
Survivors include: brother John Wesley Shasteen, son Thomas Cole and wife Sandy, son Gerald Cole and wife Celina, daughter Patricia Wallace and husband Roger, daughter Carol Hielckert and husband Robert, stepson Ronnie Krebs and wife Lora, stepdaughter Jennifer Cannon, stepdaughter Cheryl Sutton, stepdaughter Karen Green and husband Gary, daughter in law Lisa Krebs. She also leaves behind many grand-and great-grandchildren.
