Mary Alma Simmel Neu

January 13, 1930 — February 1, 2021

Mary Alma Simmel Neu, 91, peacefully went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2021.  Her final weeks were spent surrounded by her beloved family.

Mary was born January 13, 1930 to Andrew and Evie (Sparks) Simmel in Pilot Point, TX.  On January 22, 1955 she married the love of her life, Charles Aloys Neu.

Mary was the heart of her family.  She always made time for her loved ones and welcomed and cherished time with her friends.  Mary had a unique gift of making all her children, grand children and great grandchildren feel as though they were her favorite. She loved with her entire heart and soul.  She had the gift to see how each one needed to be loved.  Above all else she had a beautiful devotion to her husband of 66 years, and he to her, as he selflessly cared for her in her final year.  Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the lights of her life and in return she shined the brightest of all.  She was funny, patient, caring, as well as an amazing cook and baker especially homemade cinnamon rolls and pies.  She was an active and devoted member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Mary was an incredible hostess, and she spoiled her grandkids rotten!  She loved to play games with her grandkids and even let them win on occasion.

Mary is survived by her husband, Charles; children and spouses, Joyce and Michael Bengfort, Marilyn and Leslie Sandmann, Tom and Michelle (Pelzel) Neu, Leslie Neu, Diana and John Cravens, and Donald and Debbie (Schmitt) Neu; Grandchildren (and their spouses), Angela (Scott) Flanagan, Josh (Jerry) Cravens, Brian (Rachel) Neu, Adrianne (Jordan) Sparkman, Jonathan (Lisa) Bengfort, Jennifer (Fernando) Castaneda, Mark (Lacy) Neu, Renee (Kyle) Keith, Kevin (Amber) Neu, Adam (Marilyn) Cravens, Stephanie (Chris) Hennigan, Bradley (Kayde) Cravens, Brandy Cravens, Cammi (Wayne) Twinner, Karli (Nat) McEwen, Brianne Sandmann, Courtney (Zach) Stockwell, Ryan Neu, and Koby Hogan; 29 Great grandchildren, brother Bobby Simmel, and sister Margaret Schindler.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Edward (Sonny), Albert, and Wilbert Simmel, sister Frances Schroeder, and great-grandson Atlas Hennigan.

Rosary Service for Mary will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 3 at 6 pm.  Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church on Thursday, February 4 at 10 am.  Pallbearers will be grandsons Brian, Mark, and Kevin Neu, Jonathan Bengfort, Adam and Bradley Cravens, and Ryan Neu.

Special thanks to Mary’s children who cared for her so lovingly and tirelessly during her final months, to caregiver Cheryl, and to Ardent Home Hospice especially Drue and Vanetta for their tender care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Peter Catholic Church.

Her absence will be deeply felt, but her intercessions from Heaven will be abundant.
