Michael Alan Griffin

June 13, 1956 — November 15, 2021

Michael (Mike) Alan Griffin, 65 of Whitesboro passed away November 15, 2021, in Denison.

Mike was born June 13, 1956, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Jack & Lovella Griffin.  He was the third of four children born to this union.

Mike was the captain of the Rodeo Team of Wichita Falls Ryder High School where he participated in bull riding and bareback riding.  He graduated in 1974 and started traveling with the wheat harvest in Kansas and went all the way to Canada.  He was an avid horse trainer and worked on several horse ranches around Aubrey.

He met the love of his life, Deborah Kay Smotherman in 1975 and they married September 4, 1976.  They had recently celebrated their 45 th wedding anniversary.

Mike worked in construction, the sand bagging industry and was currently employed by Enderby Gas in Gainesville.  There was no job too large or small for him whether he was building, designing, sewing, engineering, or just tinkering in his shop.  He was also a journeyman machinist. Mike loved everyone he met especially his co-workers and his customers at Enderby Gas.

There was never a dull moment when Mike was in the room.  His witty personality was always ready for a good prank or a funny saying when he was around.

In 1990, Mike submitted his life to God and was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost. It set him on a path of servitude for the remainder of his life.   He was a minister for Pastor Jack Warren for almost 28 years.  He worked the jail ministry in Gainesville for over 14 years as well as the nursing home ministry for 13 years.  He was a Sunday school teacher at Jesus Christ Tabernacle for many years and was loved dearly by the children as he was always a child at heart.

Survivors include: wife, Deborah Kay Griffin, son and daughter-in-law Philip and Mandi Griffin and two grandchildren Ivie and Shamus Griffin.  He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Pam and Barry Perkes, his step-mother Janell Griffin, nephew John Griffin and nieces Jessica Ockerman and Jennifer Griffin, father-in-law and mother-in-law Gordon and Joy Smotherman, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janet and Larry Epperson and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
