Funeral services for Michael D. Allison, 70, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Hillcrest Church of Christ with David Gray officiating.  Interment is scheduled for 3:00 PM on Thursday at Purdy Cemetery in Purdy, OK.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 12 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Allison passed away September 9, 2018 in Dallas.

Mike was born February 10, 1948 in Ardmore, OK to Calvin Melton and Mary Virginia (Johnston) Allison.  He graduated from Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, NM in 1966, received an Associate of Arts degree from Levelland Junior College in Levelland, TX, studied at the School of Mines in Socorro, NM, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from West Texas State University in 1970, and received his Master’s degree in Geology, also from West Texas State, following his military service.

In October of 1970, Mr. Allison married Mary Bess Smith in Heart Camp, TX.  He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served as an aerial observer in Vietnam.  Mr. Allison spent his entire career doing what he loved – Geology.  He worked for Amaco Production Company and Couch Oil before starting his own companies, Allison Oil & Gas Company, Inc. and North Texas Sample Log Service.  He was the area’s leading expert on the Arbuckle Formation, enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding his motorcycle, and going for long drives in the countryside.

Survivors include: wife Mary Allison of Gainesville; son William B. Allison and wife Aimee of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren: Austin and Emma; brother Steven Allison and wife Mary of Tomball; brother Gene Allison and wife Nita of Lubbock; sister Nancy Finkbiener and husband Tom of Highland Village, MO; sister-in-law Hellen Adrian and husband Lonnie of Muleshoe; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Allison was preceded in death by: his parents; and sister Becky Newman.

Serving as pallbearers are: Rod Tyler, George Grounds, Jerry Estes, David Hutcherson, David Spaeth, and George Spaeth.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Hillcrest Church of Christ; Ardmore Geological Society Scholarship Fund; American Cancer Society; American Diabetes Association; or a charity of one’s choosing.
