Mike Rosenberg

April 12, 1949 — July 15, 2022

Charles Michael Rosenberg, 73, Gainesville, TX, passed away July 15, 2022.

Mike was born April 12, 1949 in Muenster, TX, the son of Charles “Rosie” Rosenberg and Blanche Hammer Rosenberg. Mike was united in marriage to Dorothy “Dot” Quisenberry in 1978 at the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, TX.

Mike attended Gainesville High School where he lettered in football his Junior and Senior years. He was also elected Student Body President and was voted Campus Favorite by his peers in 1967.

Mike obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from McMurry University in 1971. He later completed his Masters in School Administration and obtained a Superintendent Certificate from TWU.

Mike attended McMurry on a football scholarship and pledged Alpha Sigma Chi fraternity. He was surprisingly spry for his size and was an offensive lineman who proudly boasted that he once ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. He lettered in football all four years of college and was selected as team captain in 1971. He was awarded All Lone Star Conference, was selected as an UPI All-Texas team member and was inducted into the McMurry University Athletic Hall of Honor.

Upon graduating from college, Mike taught and coached for Era ISD and Callisburg ISD and then worked for Northwest ISD as an Assistant Principal. He later joined Sanger ISD as an Administrator and after serving over ten years, Mike moved back to his hometown to be the Gainesville ISD Superintendent for six years before retiring in 2005. He was later elected to represent the community on the Gainesville School Board from 2011-2020.

Mike was obsessed with sports, reading books about military and American history, playing the guitar, painting miniature battle scenes, and praising the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was the proudest Papa, showing off pictures and stories of Witten and Ellie Grace to anyone who would listen.

Mike was known for his deep voice, quick wit, his amazingly kind heart, and a lifelong disgust of the Dallas Cowboys.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Rosenberg; his son, Patrick Rosenberg; his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Chris Brown and two grandchildren, Witten and Ellie Grace Brown; his sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Bill Huchtons; his niece and nephew, Amy and Greg Harper; his great nephew, Harrison Harper; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Calvin & Susan Quisenberry and their children and grandchildren and countless other dear family and friends.
