Nona Elizabeth (Bridgman) Shell was born October 13, 1934 to Joe Wheeler Bridgeman and Lillie Leo Fergesen in Thackerville, OK. She had four siblings: Barbara, Bonnie, Larry, and Linda.
Nona moved to Gainesville, TX at age 17 where she met the love of her life, F.D. (Boady) Shell. They were married September 6, 1952. Nona and Boady began their family producing five children: Leslie, Joey, Melissa, Carol, and Tina.
Nona was not only a hard worker while raising her five children, but had many interests, mostly self-taught. She took in ironing and worked at Linda Jo Shoe Factor. She also worked with Betty Kreager at her bookkeeping service, then went to college and got her degree in bookkeeping. She worked with Margie Baugh before starting her own business, Shell Bookkeeping, eventually retiring in 2012. She played on a woman’s softball team as the hind catcher for several years, and taught herself how to sew, quilt, and paint. She loved acquiring knowledge so she read everything she could get her hands on.
Nona was preceded in death by her mother; father; siblings Bonnie, Linda, and Larry; children Tina, Carol, and Joey; and great-grandson Kelby.
Survivors include: children Leslie Shell and Melissa Barthold; grandchildren Justin Barthold, Honey Ing, Cody Shell, and Chad Lee and wife Amanda; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 1 at Valley View Cemetery.
