Nora Mae Phillips passed away peacefully on September 20, 2021, at her home in Lake Kiowa, Texas with “her girls” at her side. Nora was 94 years old, born on January 17, 1927. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Howard M. Phillips, a sister, Billie Joyce Ricketts, son-in-law, Ransom Reynolds, and son-in-law, C. Donald Cave.
Nora is survived by her three daughters, Sylvia Cave, Susan Phillips, and Gay Phillips & wife, Sue Barton, nephew, Doug Ricketts and wife, Cathy, and niece, Susan Sheldon, and husband, John. She is also survived by grandchildren Tim Yates, Chris Yates and wife, Elizabeth, Stephanie Reynolds, Ledaire Palmer, Carrie Cave Smith and husband, Greg, Steve Cave and wife, Amy, as well as great-grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Kira Palmer, Jonathan Cave, Caroline Cave, Andrew Cave, Rachel Yates, Matthew Yates, Dena Yates, and Cole Yates.
Nora belonged to the Philanthropic & Educational Organization (PEO) Chapter A, the oldest Texas Chapter promoting educational opportunities for young women. She was a life-long member of the Disciples of Christ (Christian) Church denomination wherever they lived. She spent many years volunteering with the Junior League Services in Lubbock and Odessa, Texas. Nora and Howard were lucky enough to live in Paris, France for six years, in an apartment overlooking the Seine River. They traveled together all over the world even after returning to the US and settling back in Oklahoma City.
Her daughters and entire family want to thank Janice Lawson, her loyal, patient, and attentive caregiver for the past five years, as well as all of the staff at the Wesley House Assisted Living in Gainesville, and Gwen Potz-Nielsen and her staff at Home Health For You, for their excellent care over the past several years. We also want to thank Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke, and Fannin Counties for their prompt, professional and compassionate care this past week.
