Opal Pittner

October 15, 1932 — October 23, 2021

Opal Pauline Pittner’s Lord & Savior called her to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Renaissance Care Center, Gainesville, TX, at age 89.  She was born in Gainesville, TX to Arthur & Lola Scott of Thackerville, OK.

Opal loved her Lord, family, and friends deeply.  Everyone was special to her.  She enjoyed writing, playing and singing country music, and singing and playing church hymns.  Family getting together and playing and singing country or gospel music was a part of every family function including fish fries, family reunions, and anniversary celebrations.  She and her husband, George, also enjoyed camping out in their RV with the Good Sam RV Club, family, and friends.  She was also a wonderful seamstress and made most of her work clothes, as well as daughter Debbie’s school clothes and drill team uniforms.  She crafted some too and was a wonderful cook, most famous for her homemade Chocolate Fudge, German Chocolate Cake, Pecan Pies, and especially her homemade biscuits & cream gravy.

Opal was also famous for her HUGE sweet tooth!  That made her easy to shop for on birthdays and holidays.  Everyone who knew her well knew exactly which sweet goodies to get her.  No secret here!

During her career she worked for Linda-Jo Shoes, United Bedding, Lovejoy’s Dress Factory, Lorch Westway, Inc., all in Gainesville, before working and retiring from Weber Aircraft.  After retiring, she also worked in Tom Thumb Deli for a brief time.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur & Lola Scott; her husband, George Pittner; brothers, Frank Scott, Cecil Scott, Orville Scott, Ernest Scott; sisters, Lela Bell Sconce and Leola Murrell; sisters-in-law, Helen O’Dell, Frances Cox, Catherine “Kitty” Arend; and brothers-in-law, William “Jack” Pittner and Richard “Dick or Shorty” Pittner.

Opal is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie & Lynn Foster of Denton, TX; one sister and brother-in-law, Maudene (Deannie) & Benny Mason of Gainesville, TX; sister-in-law, Marguerite Mages of Frisco; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends that are extended family.
