Polly Haverkamp passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Rosary and visitation will be at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville, on Friday, June 21, at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass is Saturday, June 22, at St Mary’s Church in Gainesville, TX at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Polly was the fourth child born to R.D. and Ruby Morris on November 5, 1929. She grew up in Bulcher, TX and graduated from High School in Saint Jo, TX. She met her husband, Walter (Chalkie) Haverkamp on a blind date. They married on April 17, 1952 at St. Mary’s Church, Gainesville, TX. They lived in Gainesville, TX and Electra, TX. Eventually they settled in Whitesboro, TX where they lived for 42 years. After Chalkie’s death, Polly moved back to Gainesville, TX where she resided until she passed away. Polly and Chalkie had three children, Karla Sue, Monte and Monica.
Polly worked at Kress & Bell Telephone in Gainesville, TX, the Panty factory in Pilot Point, TX and The Nosegay in Whitesboro, TX. She loved quilting, counted cross stitch and crocheting. She made all her family members a quilt and crochet blankets. Polly also loved to cook and bake. She loved people and always had a story to tell. She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Church in Gainesville after converting to Catholicism in 1952.
She is survived by her children, Karla and Monica Haverkamp from Coppell, TX, and Monte (Sherri) Haverkamp from Gainesville, TX. Polly is also survived by three grandchildren, Derek, Nathan (Ashlee) & Kelsey; four great-grandchildren, Hadley, Jake, Willow & Lennon; and sisters-in-law, Deloris Wiesman, Florence Schumacher and Ruth Morris.
Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Walter (Chalkie) Haverkamp, parents RD and Ruby Morris, sisters Dee and husband Ragon McElreath, Maxine Morris, Patsy and husband Bob Grober, brothers Ambrose Morris, James Morris, Johnny Morris and wife Gayle, Harold Morris, mother-in-law and father- in-law Lee and Mary Haverkamp, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Joyce and Bud Boydstun, Robert Haverkamp, Jeanette and Travis Wickliffe, Ollie and David Forgey, Leroy Wiesman and Richard Schumacher.
