Rheba Jane Mathis

August 24, 1934 — October 15, 2018

A funeral service for Rheba Jane (Bryant) Mathis, 84, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Jones officiating.  Visitation will follow the funeral service.

Mrs. Mathis passed away October 15, 2018 in Gainesville.

Rheba Jane Mathis, an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, transitioned from this life at the age of 84, on October 15, 2018.  She was born August 24, 1934 in Gainesville, Texas to Woodrow and Maureen Bryant.  She was a member of St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.  She graduated valedictorian of her class in 1951 from Booker T. Washington.  Rheba later married and had six children.  She worked as a Test Operator at Texas Instruments in Sherman, Texas for 26 years before retiring to care for her mother until her passing.

Rheba lived her life to the fullest.  She love to spend her time cooking “more than enough” for her family and church family.  She was an avid reader who enjoyed a good book.  She enjoyed crafting many things for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her love for her friends was expressed by spending time with them chatting on the phone.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son Robert Mathis and wife Paula of Arlington; son Mark Mathis and wife Twana of Gainesville; daughter Nikki Pegues of Fort Worth; daughter Lisa Steward and husband Michael of Gainesville; daughter Rev. Kathy Mack and husband Charles of Arlington; son Greg Mathis and wife Mallory of Gainesville; grandchildren: Kevin Mathis, Karmon Mathis, Robert Mathis Jr., Karen Fields, Steven McBath, Chad Pegues, Brandi Pegues, Sean Stewart, Malori Stewart, Kari Harvey, Cami Mack, and Djana Jackson; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Carol Parramore of Fontana, CA; brother Woodrow Bryant of Odessa; and sister Brenda Daniels of Mesquite.

Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by: parents Woodrow and Mintie Maureen (Stone) Bryant; and sister Linda Scott.
