Robert (Bobby) Wayne Hendricks

August 14, 1964 — July 25, 2023

Robert (Bobby) Wayne Hendricks, 58, passed away on July 25, 2023 in Durant, OK.  This sudden loss is shattering hearts around the world.

Bobby was born on August 14, 1964, and raised by John and Lydia Hendricks [grandparents] of Atoka, OK.  He met the love of his life, Sylvia [Lamb, of Madill, OK], at age 15, and they were married 3 years later.  Bobby and Sylvia traveled extensively together, teaching abroad in Japan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, India, and China as well as in the United States.  He was the adoring father of two daughters, Emily [Hopkins, husband Kevin] and Lydia [Khan, husband Mohammed], and proud Opa to five grandchildren [Soraya, Lorelei, Jonah, Elliott, Margot].

Bobby, the second of four brothers [Gary, Randy, Jeffrey], grew up in Oklahoma and Texas.  He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and later University of Oklahoma, where he and his wife began their life-long journey as passionate educators and world adventurers.  Curious and talented in many areas, Bobby found his niche as a technology director, setting up or improving the technological resources for teachers and young students and around the globe.

His Mamaw and Papaw Hendricks taught him the value of hard work and to make his way in the world through fortitude and the sweat of his brow.  His Granddad and Mamaw [Cecil and Janice Flournoy of Paris, TX] taught him a love of music and laughter, and the joy of welcoming family home.  All of his grandparents set an example of love that taught him what a marriage should be.  Bobby enjoyed working with his hands whether it was on his grandparents’ farm, sailing across foreign seas with Sylvia, or learning a new song on one of his many guitars.

His friends and family will remember him as honest, helpful, charismatic, and a natural comedian with a quick wit who made every day brighter.

The funeral service will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville Texas on August 2nd at 2:00pm.  This world traveler will be returned to his grandparents, laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, he would have asked that those funds be donations to help cover the medical costs associated with Schaaf-Yang syndrome (https://everloved.com/life-of/robert-hendricks-durant-ok/donate/).  When dining out, please consider purchasing the meal of the veteran you see at the next table, as he did many times to show his support and thanks for our American armed forces.  Take some time from your day to sit down and read to your children, tell them silly jokes, and never stop wrapping your arms around them with loving bear hugs.
