Robert Michael Fuhrmann

June 29, 1935 — August 26, 2020

Robert “Bob” Michael Fuhrmann was born on June 29, 1935 in St. Jo, Iowa.  He was the oldest child of Adolph and Amanda (Kupper) Fuhrmann.  At the age of 12, the family moved to Texas and settled in Lindsay on a dairy farm.  He was a graduate of Lindsay High School and attended Arlington State Junior College for 2 years where he was a member of the ROTC Jody Marching Precision Drill Team.  He returned home to take care of the family dairy and farm after his father’s health declined. On June 2, 1962, he married Jolene Zimmerer.  They were married for 58 years and lived on the farm in Lindsay where his family had moved to from Iowa.

Bob, as he was known to most people, had a deep passion for farming and agriculture.  He farmed most of his life, raising wheat, milo, oats, soybeans and hay.  He also loved Hereford cattle and showing livestock. He maintained a herd of registered Hereford cattle from the mid 1960’s to the early 1980’s, exhibiting at county fairs and stock shows across Texas including the Ft. Worth Stock Show, State Fair of Texas and the Houston Livestock Show.  He was an active member of the Texas Hereford Association in those years as well.  When his children became old enough to join 4-H, they too were introduced to feeding and raising show animals from steers to breeding heifers.  They exhibited livestock across Texas at county fairs and the major shows of Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio and Houston.

Bob’s love of the military and history also played a prominent role in his later years of life.  He became actively involved in Civil War reenactments.  He was involved in the filming of a documentary at Antietam.  He and Jolene traveled across the country to many battleground memorials.  He was able to share his extensive knowledge of history as a teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic school for several years.  Additionally, he was a school bus route driver for the Lindsay, Muenster and Callisburg school districts.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay where he had served as a religious education teacher, Eucharistic minister, lector and usher.  He also served on the Lindsay ISD School Board of trustees for 9 years and was one of the initial members of the Lindsay Booster Club.  He volunteered filming high school football games for Lindsay for many years.  In recent years, he gave several historical presentations of battleground dioramas he had created.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jolene (Zimmerer) Fuhrmann of Lindsay; Daughter and husband Kelly & Tom Huston of Myra, Daughter Jessica Fuhrmann-Reiter of Lindsay; Sons and wives Scott & Melinda Fuhrmann of Lindsay, Toby & Bridgette Fuhrmann of Sherman and Zack & Jami Fuhrmann of Muenster.   His Granddaughters: Caitlin Huston, Rebecca & Leah Fuhrmann, Hayes Fuhrmann and Rachel Fuhrmann Kirk and her husband Cole; Grandsons: Matthew & Nathan Huston, Stephen & Sutton Fuhrmann, Luke Reiter, Cash Fuhrmann and great-granddaughter Eve Kirk.  His brothers and their wives: Mike & Cathy Fuhrmann of Aubrey and Ronald (Ruff) & Patty Fuhrmann of Muenster; his sister and husband Margery & Jeff Bass of Woodway.  Six nieces, eight nephews and numerous cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents Adolph & Amanda (Kupper) Fuhrmann, infant sister Lanita Marie Fuhrmann; his in-laws Joe & Stella Zimmerer, infant daughter Stacie Fuhrmann; infant granddaughter Hadley Fuhrmann and brother and sister in law Kenneth Zimmerer and Diane Eberhart.
