Robert Pat Price was born June 26, 1935 in Grand Junction, Colorado to parents Toy E. Price and Berta Burris Price. The family moved back to west Texas and settled in the area around Wildorado, Texas to establish a diary farm. Pat’s early childhood education began in a one-room school house. He then attended the demonstration school at West Texas State, followed by attending school at Hereford High School. From high school, Pat went to West Texas State University and earned a degree in Biology. He secured a teaching job, but was drafted into the U. S. Army where he served in in the Quartermaster Corps, Chicago, Illinois doing research in nutrition. After honorable discharge from the Army, he served in Civil Service to complete a project. His career path then led him to the School of Pharmacy, Southeastern State Oklahoma. His pharmacy career was for forty-eight years.
Pat’s first job as a pharmacist was in Denton, Texas. He had a cousin who was teaching in Richardson, Texas and insisted his meeting a fellow teacher, Katie Wharton, for a blind date. Long story short, they dated for six weeks, became engaged, and married August 5, 1967 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, McKinney, Texas; a marriage that has lasted 53 years. Pat and Katie moved from Denton to Gainesville, Texas in 1969. He worked for an independent pharmacy, then retired from Denton State School Pharmacy.
Life has been good. Pat and Katie did some traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Estes Park, Colorado was a favorite for hiking and climbing to Longs Peak. Many fun snow skiing trips with church families were enjoyed. Pat made a medical mission trip to Bolivia, and served as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville where he loved the organ music.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, brother, two sisters, and in-laws Jeff and Martha Wharton. He is survived by his wife Katie, sister-in-law Theresa Price, brother-in-law Don and Paula Wharton, and many nieces and nephews.
Pat loved all the special cats and dogs that shared our home through the years. Rusty was very special to him.
