Roger Clyde Pettitt, 79, most recently of Bonham, passed away May 23, 2024 at Texoma Medical Center, Denison.
Roger was born July 5, 1944 in Lone Grove, OK. He graduated from Gainesville High School where he was a member of the basketball team. He then attended Cooke County Junior College and North Texas State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Pettitt would serve several years in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman and was honorably discharged. He would continue his career in law enforcement as a police officer in Wichita Falls and as a Sherriff’s Deputy in Cooke and Grayson Counties. Mr. Pettitt also worked for Otis Engineering and Baker Tool for over 30 years before retiring. Mr. Pettitt married Maria Torres in 1998. In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars, and doing upholstery work, both on cars and furniture. He also had an extensive collection of coffee mugs and t-shirts.
Survivors include: wife of 26 years, Maria Pettitt of Colombia; son Russell Todd Pettitt; son Larry Aurel Mendoza; and several grandchildren, including Mariana, Daniela, and Andres.
Mr. Pettitt was preceded in death by: parents Butch and Erron (Cox) Pettitt; and brothers Kenneth Pettitt, Ronnie Pettitt, and Daylos “Scooter” Pettitt.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. Mr. Pettitt will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
Memorial contributions may be made to Custer City Baptist Church or Scottish Rite for Children Hospital in Dallas.
