Ronald Eugene Horner, Sr., 68, of Burns City, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 27, 2023 in Denton.
Ronnie was born August 16, 1955 in Gainesville and attended schools in Gainesville and Callisburg. On January 1, 1974, he married Ella LaBorde in Woodbine. Ronnie began his career in the oil field, working for Schlensker and Rowan. He then spent 15 years with Texas Instruments in Plano as a plumber and pipe fitter. He was a skilled craftsman and could build anything, including his own house. He enjoyed living on and caring for his family farm in Burns City. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, firearms, flying remote-controlled airplanes, photography, and playing with his pets and grandchildren. Ronnie was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church and loved spending time with his church family.
Predeceased by: parents Jack and Dorothy (Lillard) Horner; brother Jim Horner; and brother Billy Jack Horner.
Survived by: wife Ella Horner of Burns City; daughter Michelle Horner of Burns City; son Ronnie Horner, Jr. (wife Becca) of Gainesville; daughter Laura Westbrook (husband Brandon) of Pilot Point; grandchildren Britni Hutchins (husband Daniel), Melani Nortman (husband Austin), Saylor LeeAnn Lewis, and Evelyn Westbrook; great-grandchildren Hayden Welch, Hudson Hutchins, and Hazel “Tater Bug” Hutchins; sister Reta Odom (husband James) of Burns City; sister Debbie Hermes (husband Ralph) of Burns City; sister Jana Horner of Burns City; numerous nieces and nephews; and pets Fuzzy, Sally, and Ferguson.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, in the funeral home chapel. A committal service will follow at New Hope Cemetery, Mountain Springs.
