ROY ALLEN GRAY, SR.
Roy Allen Gray, Sr. was born January 12, 1941 in Gainesville. He passed peacefully in his home April 10, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Gray had many trades over his 78 years. He would always say, “I’m a jack of all trades, master of none.” He loved hunting, fishing, camping, and anything outdoors. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and especially his little redheaded wife. One of his favorite sayings was “Love you to the moon-n-back.”
In 2009, he found his new profession, security officer for Winstar Casino, and boy, was he good at it. He found his niche. He loved his job and the people he worked with, and likewise, they loved him. He worked there from 2009 to 2016. Best job he ever had, he’d say. His family would like to thank the Chickasaw Nation and Winstar Casino for allowing him his final wish, to be laid to rest in his uniform.
Roy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Tammie; daughter and son-in-law Angela and Chente Serna of Anna; daughter Sandra Kaley of Minnesota; sons Colby Ryan, Roy, Jr., and Dillon all of Gainesville; son-in-law Joel Najera of Gainesville; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren not including Juan Jose Allen due on April 17 and Kimberly due on June 21; many nieces and nephews; sister and brother-in-law Dortha and Loyd Leach of Gainesville; brother David Smith of Dallas; sister-in-law Juanita Snider of Woodbine.
Pallbearers will be Colby, Roy, Jr, Dillon, Sandra, Joel Najera, James Shannon, and Chente Serna. Honorary pallbearers are Don Snider and Dinker Gunnells, both helping from Heaven.
Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his beloved foster mother Beulah Godwin; parents; son Christopher Don; daughter Pamela; great-grandson Jose, Jr.; brothers Don Snider, Billy Smith, Teddy Smith; sisters Joyce Briley, Nieta Hall; great-nephew Kenneth Wesley.
